IU football player charged with dealing drugs across from stadium

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — An Indiana University football player accused of dealing drugs near campus could soon be facing more charges.
The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office filed three felony counts against Antonio Allen, 20, for dealing heroin and meth. Prosecutors said it’s possible that more charges could be filed against the defensive back for cocaine.
According to court documents, Allen is accused of selling almost $1,400 worth of heroin and meth just steps away from Memorial Stadium.
Allen may be a free man Wednesday night after bonding out of jail, but police believe it was behind door number 6 at Touchdown Terrace where the illegal activity began.
“I’m really surprised that a guy with such a bright future would do it,” said Chris Nguyen, neighbor. “Basically throw it all away for something like drugs.”
Indiana State Police said Allen can be seen and heard on two separate occasions selling drugs to a wired informant. Neighbors told 24-Hour News 8 they saw police searching the apartment yesterday evening.
“They came in there and after three hours, they came out with one little bag about the size of a white plastic bag,” said Homer Wade Altevogt, neighbor.
According to court documents filed, the informant told detectives he has purchased drugs before out of that same apartment from Allen.
Documents stated in the first undercover operation, police gave the informant $620 dollars. He came back with 6.5 grams of heroin and 2.2 grams of crystal meth.
Documents went on to reveal that in the second operation, police gave the informant $770 dollars. He came back with 5.2 grams of meth.
“I’m glad they get the dealers,” said Wade Altevogt. “But it’s too bad, you know, these kids get involved.”
Some people living in the same apartment complex are just wondering why an athlete would get involved with drugs in the first place.
“There’s a certain amount of willpower that you have to exert. You have to have a certain amount of motivation,” said Nguyen. “It’s a shame that people like Antonio Allen couldn’t carry that motivation to the workforce or carry onto the field.”
After getting a search warrant, police said they found more than 28 grams of cocaine, more than 10 grams of heroin, more than $900 dollars, and a gun inside of Allen’s apartment.
As for the informant in this case, he was also arrested after police said he admitted to stealing some meth during the second operation.
Allen is scheduled for an initial hearing Friday afternoon.
