Two days after LSU defensive lineman Trey Lealaimatafao was arrested for allegedly hitting a woman, starting quarterback Anthony Jennings and two other LSU football players were arrested Thursday, according to Baton Rouge Police and the East Baton Rouge Parish jail.
Jennings, a junior from Marietta, Ga., who has been the Tigers' starting quarterback since the end of the 2013 season, was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of unauthorized entry of a dwelling. He has had no previous arrests.
Sophomore defensive lineman Maquedius Bain of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was also arrested for felony unauthorized entry of a dwelling, and junior defensive back Dwayne Thomas of New Orleans was arrested for misdemeanor simple burglary and felony unauthorized entry of a dwelling. All three were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, according to a jail spokesperson.
Tigers coach Les Miles released a statement Thursday night in reference to Jennings', Bains' and Thomas' arrest that read, "We have suspended these players. It has been our policy to suspend players who have been involved in legal issues. I have met with all three players extensively. We are still working with campus housing and the authorities to determine what exactly took place. This is an on-going investigation, and our players will cooperate fully."
Lealaimatafao, a redshirt freshman from San Antonio, was suspended indefinitely from the football team by coach Les Miles after getting arrested on Tuesday for allegedly pushing and punching a woman in the face outside Reggie's bar near the LSU campus, according to a Baton Rouge Police report. He was allegedly taking money from the pants of another person who was on the ground unconscious at the parking lot outside Reggie's, and that man's girlfriend began yelling at Lealaimatafao to stop.
"When she approached him, he pushed her away," the initial Baton Rouge Police report says. "She continued to scream at him to stop, and he hit her in the face with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground."
It is not known how the man on the ground ended up unconscious. Lealaimatafao, 18, was charged with attempted simple battery and attempted simple robbery — both misdemeanors.
Lealaimatafao was issued a misdemeanor summons last July for stealing a bicycle from the LSU library. He later returned the bike and told police that because the bike was not locked, he thought it was part of a ride for free program, which is available in several cities. Lealaimatafao was redshirted last season at LSU after injuring an arm when he punched through a glass in the LSU weight room.
Lealaimatafao was listed as the No. 26 defensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com when he was a senior in 2013-14 at Warren High School in San Antonio.
